みなさん、こんにちは。

南アフリカの小学校の先生、ノンベニ先生より手紙が届きましたので、以下に共有させていただきます。

本と移動図書館車の重要性について

南アフリカから、こんにちは！

 

私は、南アフリカのヨハネスブルクにある公立小学校で教師および司書をしています。

南アフリカの子どもたち（そしてすべての子どもたち）にとって、本と移動図書館車がいかに重要であるかをお話ししたいと思います。

「本」は読み手が本当に知りたいと思うような新しい視点や、洞察の源となります。世界をよりよく知るための手助けをしてくれます。日常生活に役立つ知識を与えてくれます。さらには、知識をより深いものにし、考察力や想像力を刺激してくれます。

フィクションやノンフィクション、参考書やソフトウェアに関する本など、さまざまな種類の図書があることにより、子どもたちはどんな本が何の目的で役に立つのかが分かるようになります。あらゆる種類の本が、生徒たちにとっては重要なのです。

移動図書館車は、私たちの学校では青色の「ブルーバス」として知られています。移動図書館車は子どもたちに青い色で親しまれているので、今後も色は変えないでほしいと思います*。図書館車は生徒同様、先生たちも利用できるため、みんなにとって利益となっています。

*補足：移動図書館車は現地のテイストに合わせてカラフルにペイントされ、時にはアフリカ風ニックネームを命名されて現地で人々に親しまれています。彼女のエリアの図書館車は、ブルーバスとして今後も巡回予定です。

Importance of books and the mobile library

 

To whom it may concern.

 

Greetings from South Africa!

　 I am a teacher- librarian at a local school in South Africa, Johannesburg. I want to bring to your attention the importance of books to the children of South Africa or anyone else in general.

　 Books are important because they are a source of gaining new insight or perspective on issues that the reader really wants to know about. They help the reader understand the world  better. Books give information to the reader that can be applied in every-day-life situations. Furthermore, it helps them build up on previous knowledge. Books help to stimulate one’s thinking and imagination. Since there are different types of books like fiction, non- fiction, references, software,they are for different purposes, and learners become enlightened on what books work for what purpose. All types of books are important in the roles they play.

　 Concerning the mobile library, we  have always known the blue bus as the mobile library therefore for familiarity we would like you to keep it blue. Changing the color would not be a bad idea but the children are well-aquantained with the blue- colored bus. They call it “The Blue bus”. Perhaps  a spacious bus would benefit everyone because teachers as well as the children (class monitors) access the bus.
